TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is no longer handing out identification cards and driver's licenses the same day.

As part of a way to fight against fake identification cards and protect people against identity theft, MVD will now mail out ID cards to people when they apply for a new license or renew and it could take up to 15 days to arrive.

In the meantime, people will be handed temporary paper ID cards that expire 30 days after getting issued.

The new cards will also look a lot different including larger photos and the date of birth will have a raised feel to it.

Nathan Cohn applied for an Arizona driver's license for the first time and welcomed the new changes.

"I think that is a great thing," Cohn said on Monday. "Working in bars, I mean that's only better for everyone."

However, others said it is frustrating.

"It's pretty frustrating because it takes a long time to have it done," said William Liggins. He lost his identification card and had to go in Monday for a replacement.

There is no need to rush out and get a new license until you are asked to renew.
