HPD SWAT Lieutenant found guilty of drunk driving

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After multiple delays, trial got underway for Lt. Colin Wong, the Honolulu Police Lieutenant arrested in March last year for driving drunk.  Wong sideswiped a car in the parking lot of the Modern Honolulu Hotel in Waikiki.

Several officers testified against Wong in court Thursday saying he was slurring his words, and lost his balance during his arrest.

Wong did not take the stand.

The judge found him guilty and ordered him to get substance abuse treatment, revoked his license for two years, and ordered him to pay $1500 in fines.

Wong has indicated he will appeal.

The 27-year HPD veteran is the Lieutenant over HPD's SWAT team.  He was put on leave during the investigation.

A district court judge dismissed the case last year because 180-day time limit for a speedy trial lapsed.  Charges were refiled.
