PARIS (CNN) - After weeks of tensions over the crisis in Ukraine, President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, come face to face in France at the D-Day commemoration ceremonies.
They came together for a "class picture" of world leaders on Friday.
And they also sat at the same table for lunch, although they were not side by side.
Later, the two leaders did have a face-to-face meeting on the sidelines of that meal.
A New York Times reporter says it was more of an informal conversation that lasted about 15 minutes.
On Thursday, Obama said he had no plans for a formal meeting with Putin.
He said if he did speak to the Russian president he would give him the same message on Ukraine that he has given him in phone calls over past weeks and in his public statements.
