Hawaii's 10th Walmart will open in downtown Honolulu on July 9.
The store will replace the old Macy's with Hawaii's first two-story Walmart and employ 150 people. Many of the associates were hired through previous job fairs or transferred from other locations across the state. They are already working in the new store to prepare for opening day.
"We are actually very close to being complete," said store manager Ray Griego. "We still have a lot of stocking going on but this is normal in the process of opening a store. We will be where we need to be by grand opening."
The downtown Walmart will include a pharmacy and Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union. Store hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Free parking will be available to shoppers for two hours with a purchase of $25 or more.
