We are inspired and in awe of what the Polynesian Voyaging Society has embarked upon during the official launch last week of the Hokulea and Hikianalia.
Over the next three years, the Wa'a, or the Hawaiian voyaging canoes, will be making a 47,000-mile open-ocean journey.
With only the stars, ocean, wind and birds as their guide.
The voyaging canoes will act as "floating classrooms" and show the world the lessons of the ancient Polynesian wayfinders.
In all, the Malama Honua worldwide voyage will visit 85 ports and 26 countries.
First stop? Tahiti. that is where the Hokulea made her first voyage back in 1976.
Congratulations to all those involved in this amazing project and thanks to all the sponsors who have helped support it financially.
Godspeed to the courageous crew and we wish you protection, wisdom and great skill as you navigate across the globe.
