PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A stolen car with an infant and toddler inside triggers an intense search in Pearl City.
The woman loaded up her 4-year old boy and her 3-month old girl into the Honda CRV on Kamaha'o Street. She realized she forgot her GPS and went back into the townhouse to get it. When she returned, her SUV and kids were gone.
About 15 minutes later a Honolulu Police detective found the car and kids a mile and a half away on Ho'omoana near Waimano Home Road.
Police brought the frantic mother to the scene. The children were not hurt.
Surveillance video from a neighbor shows the man parking the car and walking away carrying a large trash bag.
"He didn't look like he was in a hurry," says Florante Barber, who saw the man walk away from the car.
"I thought he was just parking the car and visiting somebody," he says.
It was only after police flooded the area that he realized what was happening.
Police have not been able to find the man. Only the woman's wallet was reported stolen so it's unclear where the large trash bag the thief was carrying came from or what was in it.
