"Railroading Paradise" Captures the Six Month Journey of Honolulu Rail Project

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

In 2012, Chair of the Oahu Group of the Sierra Club Anthony Aalto spent six months with photography director Mike Hinchey exploring the controversial arguments that were both for and against the Honolulu rail project.

"Railroading Paradise" is a documentary that captures what is to become the biggest civil engineering project in Hawaii and asks the question, how could a five billion dollar, 20-mile long railway, built 30 feet in the air, ever be justified as environmentally responsible on a small island like Oahu?

Aalto and Hinchey found themselves in the middle of one of the most bitter mayoral elections Honolulu has ever had, with one candidate determined to kill the rail project and the other determined to build it.

Grace was joined by Anthony Aalto who directed, produced, and wrote the film, and co producer Mike Hinchey to tell us more about their experience.

"Railroading Paradise" airs on Monday, May 26th on KGMB at 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, June 4th at 7 p.m. on KHNL.
