The stage is set and the tents are up, but one thing that the organizers of the popular Memorial Day lantern floating ceremony at Magic Island can't control is the weather.
The Lantern Floating Hawaii 2014 ceremony at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park may be called off today because of the weather.
Organizers said they are still feeling out the weather to see if they will have to cancel, and say they will make the final decision on whether or not to hold the event at Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Approximately 50,000 people usually attend the ceremony, and 6,000 lanterns are expected to illuminate the waters, though adverse weather will likely have some affect on the turnout.
The ceremony is held in remembrance of loved ones who have passed.
Officials say they never had to cancel it before, but for now, they are moving forward as scheduled.
If it does get rained out, they say they will let everyone know what the next steps are at that time.
If it doesn't, you can watch the ceremony live on KGMB or online at hawaiinewsnow.com beginning at 6 p.m.
