RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police are investigating a homicide involving a man who crashed his car while driving along Capital Boulevard with a gunshot wound to his torso Saturday night.

Police said Travis Donovan Rhodes, 24, was traveling north on Capital Boulevard in a Ford Mustang when he veered to the left, crossed the median and came to rest near the America's Best Value Inn sign at 3401 Capital Blvd. shortly before midnight.

It was discovered that Rhodes had suffered a gunshot wound to his torso and he later died at WakeMed.

Police said Rhodes' death is being treated as a homicide. Police did not say what led to the shooting or why Rhodes was driving himself without contacting authorities.

They are searching for a man seen in a surveillance photo at a nearby Kangaroo gas station who is believed to have information about Rhodes' death. The subject was driving a light-colored General Motors SUV, such as a Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade.

Police are not calling the man a suspect or a person of interest.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-4357.
