DENVER, May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Burleson LLP announced that Kenneth Witt, who has practiced law for more than three decades, has joined the firm's Denver location as a Partner in the Securities and Capital Markets Practice.
Witt is a Harvard graduate and seasoned corporate and securities attorney who is well versed in a number of sophisticated transactions. These include venture capital investments; information technology outsourcing; mergers and acquisitions; public and private securities offerings; international finance, including joint ventures, cross-border finance, and offshore funds; and strategic alliances.
Witt, who has earned the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® rating, said his decision to join the firm was largely due to Burleson's depth and breadth of energy-specific legal services.
"I've had some considerable involvement in the energy sector throughout my career, but moving to Burleson will really allow me to take my practice to another level," Witt explained. "Expanding my reach in the oil and gas community, while strengthening my corporate and securities practice, and adding value to my existing technology clients – three of whom are in the energy sector – is what I'm looking to achieve, and Burleson is a great fit for that."
Rick Burleson, Managing Partner, added that Witt's extensive legal background and deep roots in the Rocky Mountain region make him a strong addition to the firm.
"Ken has spent the bulk of his career in Colorado, building a 25-year track record representing companies both in and out of the energy sector," said Burleson. "He's aware of the deals taking place in the region, he knows the issues facing the industry, and he has the experience businesses are looking for to handle issues critical to public companies and other market participants. His capabilities will further strengthen our comprehensive Securities and Capital Markets Practice, and we're proud to have him on board."
John Murray, Partner-in-Charge of Burleson's Denver location, said, "Ken is an accomplished, pragmatic attorney who has the insight and acumen necessary to deliver effective legal strategies for a broad range of transactional matters. We're looking forward to leveraging his abilities and bringing his real-world knowledge and approach to our clients."
Mark Jones, Partner in the firm's Houston location, said Witt's extensive legal understanding will add tremendous value to the across-the-board services of Burleson's rapidly growing Securities and Capital Markets Practice.
"All of our Securities and Capital Markets partners have worked at large law firms and have over 25 years of experience practicing primarily in the energy sector," explained Jones. "Ken's addition only deepens our bench of seasoned attorneys who represent issuers and underwriters in capital market offerings and SEC compliance matters."
Witt's background includes representing non-U.S. funds in structuring U.S. investments; representing clients in structuring technology-driven companies as they grow from the startup phase to obtaining financing and expanding operations; and managing the legal issues related to international joint ventures in various countries, including those in Latin America and the Middle East.
Witt speaks and writes on a number of topics related to his practice. He earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and his law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
