HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you're a first time runner or are interested in marathon running, the Honolulu Ekiden Foundation is hosting their annual Ekiden race and is tons of fun for the whole family! After bringing more than 900 runners of all ages together for a marathon relay race and music festival in 2013, they are encouraging people to register for this years event happening on Sunday, June 1.
Participants are encouraged to register in two to six member teams before March 23 for a reduced entry fee. Once registered, it will include your participation in the Ekiden race as well as admission to the nighttime music festival on the beach in Waikiki.
The 26.2 mile race begins and ends at Kapi'olani Park starting at 5:30 a.m. and will feature six segments, with each member completing at least one leg of the race before handing off a sash to their next team member.
From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., everyone can relax and unwind at the entertainment and food festival, then enjoy a Sunset on the Beach Concert series starting at 4 p.m.
Dan spoke with Suzie Abeshima who is with the Honolulu Ekiden Foundation and marathon runner Jaco Van Delden to share some running tips.
