Man, woman charged after robbery attempt foiled by residents

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people who broke into a Honolulu home over the weekend with baseball bats during an attempted robbery were arrested and then charged on Sunday after being detained by the seven people who were inside the residence at the time of the alleged crime.

Honolulu Police Department officials say Solomon Kaleimamahu, 35, and Meleana Toilolo, 25, were each charged with seven counts of robbery and seven counts of aggravated kidnapping after the alleged attempt was botched by the people inside.

After Kaleimamahu and Toilolo allegedly broke into the home, armed with the bats, police say they demanded items from the five men and two women who were inside at the time.

The seven people inside the Date Street home were able to prevent them from exiting the home until police arrived at the scene.
