UH baseball team ends road trip with another loss

UC Davis scored seven runs in the fifth inning as the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior baseball team was handily defeated by the Aggies 12-3 in their series finale on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Field.

Marc Flores batted 3-4 with one run and one RBI to lead the 'Bows at the plate. Trevor Podratz posted two hits and one run and Kaeo Aliviado and Adam Hurley both added one run and one hit.

Jarrett Arakawa lasted just one inning before Quintin Torres-Costa (3-3) came on to start the second. Torres-Costa would be the pitcher of record for the 'Bows, giving up two earned runs on four hits in three innings of work.

Aggie starter Evan Wolf (4-5) earned the win, allowing three runs on nine hits in eight complete innings. Tanner Bily and Adam Young led the way for UC Davis (23-28, 7-14 Big West). Bily had four hits and scored two runs with Young adding three hits, one run, and two RBI.

The 'Bows trailed by a run early but took their first lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Three straight hits which included RBI singles by Flores and Podratz gave UH a 3-2 lead. The Aggies were quick to respond when a run-scoring base hit by Young in the bottom of the third helped UC Davis regain the lead at 4-3.

The wheels then fell off for the 'Bows (20-30, 4-17 Big West) two innings later. Nick Lynch's two-run double sparked the big inning and extended the lead to 7-3. The Aggies put four more runs on the board before Hawai'i finally recorded the third out.

The 'Bows now return home and will close out the season hosting UC Riverside for three games at Les Murakami Stadium. The series begins on Thursday, May 22.
