HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Social Security Administration has released its annual list of the top baby names for every state across the U.S., with Liam and Olivia leading the way in Hawaii and Noah and Sophia the top names nationwide.

Nationally, the SSA says Noah is the first new boys name at number one since 1960 other than Jacob or Michael. It's the third straight year for Sophia as the top girls name in the United States.

In Hawaii, Liam was followed by Mason, Noah, Ethan and Logan as the top names for boys. Sophia, Ava, Emma and Mia followed Olivia as the top names for girls.

The most popular Hawaiian name for boys, Kai, was ranked 19th on the list, with Malia the top Hawaiian name for girls, coming in at 21.

The Social Security Administration's website says that they began compiling the list of baby names in 1997, with names dating to back to 1880.
