A week after they were displayed here in Hawaii, lawmakers in Washington, D.C. got the chance to see plans for the new Daniel K. Inouye Center for Democratic Leadership on Tuesday.
The architectural model and design plans for the center, scheduled to be constructed on the University of Hawaii's Manoa campus, were first unveiled last week.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Sen. Mazie Hirono and the late Senator's wife and son were among those who attended the event in Washington.
"He would have wanted to have a facility like this here in Hawaii whether he was still here or passed," his son Ken said. "I think this is a good thing."
Organizers say the Inouye Center will advance public service and leadership through several academic and community programs. The building will also serve as the home of Senator Inouye's archives.
