Man seriously injured after driving car into Ala Wai Canal
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Honolulu police have arrested the driver of a stolen van that crashed into the Ala Wai canal early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 3:45 a.m. near the Kalakaua bridge.
Police say 29-year-old Andrew Eichelberger of Waimanalo was speeding and lost control of the stolen vehicle, hit a tree and then went airborne into the Ala Wai. Police say Eichelberger was able to get out of the vehicle on his own after it had gone into the water. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
Police arrested Eichelberger after he was released from the hospital. They booked him for the alleged auto theft, driving under the influence and driving without a license.
