No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.8 quake off coast of Central America

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake shook an area off the coast of Central America but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The earthquake happened around 8:35 p.m. HST Monday.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.8, according to preliminary reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.
