'Cease and Desist' letter sent to game rooms across Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Police vice officers went to various game rooms Monday ordering video games to be shut off.

Arcades like Winnerz Zone, Winning Zone and Tilt were all told to turn off popular games like Fish Hunter and Pot of Gold.

If the machines are not shut down, HPD could make arrests.

This is the latest in an ongoing battle between the city and arcade owners and employees.  Nine were arrested earlier this month after a 414-count indictment related to the Sweepstakes machines.  200 have been seized in recent years.

The suspects are charged with crimes like racketeering and money laundering.

Their attorneys say they had no way of knowing they were illegal because the city's Liquor Commission gave them permits to operate the machines.  They were never given 'cease and desist' letters relating to the 'sweepstakes machines'.
