On behalf of Kupuna Care service providers on Oahu, we are pleased to acknowledge Hawaii legislators for supporting our most vulnerable kupuna this legislative session. Thanks to their hard work, the Kupuna Care safety net has been maintained for ALL kupuna.
Fourteen years ago, Kupuna Care was set up by the state to provide seniors with support like home-delivered meals, personal care, help with chores, case management and transportation assistance, so they could age in their own homes. These services form an important safety net that provides basic care to the elderly and prevents them from being forced into more costly institutional care settings.
We are grateful to Hawaii legislators for clarifying that the Kupuna Care program is designed to help all eniors live independently, including our elders on Medicaid who are unable to access comparable services. We are particularly grateful to Senator Chun Oakland and Representative Belatti who worked tirelessly to ensure there was a safety net for all kupuna and not just some.
We appreciate the collaborative efforts of the state, counties and our community and look forward to continuing to work together to support a seamless system of services for all kupuna.
