Joseph Kalani Contrades
LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
On Monday, before the Honorable Judge Randal G.B. Valenciano, Joseph Kalani Contrades pleaded "No Contest" and was found guilty of Continuous Sexual Assault of a Minor under the Age of 14 Years, and two counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree.
Contrades, age 37 of Kapaa, had been arrested and charged via Family Court Complaint for multiple offenses against a minor relative, arising out of separate incidents that took place from August 2013 until the date of his arrest on February 26.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7.
All three offenses are Class "A" felonies, each carrying a 20-year maximum term of incarceration. Pursuant to a plea agreement, the State agreed to request that the 20-year maximum terms of incarceration run concurrently, and to dismiss the remaining charges. The Defendant is currently in custody at Kauai Community Correctional Center, and the Hawaii Paroling Authority will later set the minimum sentence that he must serve before he is eligible for parole.
