HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - (Hawaii News Now) - Thousands of critically ill patients can benefit from umbilical cord blood, and now there is a growing need for donations here in Hawaii. Umbilical cord blood transplants can treat many life saving diseases including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia. Maribeth Toledo-Cabuslay who donated umbilical cord blood after giving birth to six week old baby Ryan. Steve spoke with Maribeth this morning to hear her experience and learn more about the procedure from Nurse Educator Lisa Wong-Yamamoto.
