HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - As Hawaii News Now first reported Monday night, Kaiser head football coach announced that Richard Torres will take over the defensive coordinator duties for the Cougars next season.
Torres most recently served as graduate assistant for the University of Hawaii football team where he specialized in helping the defensive backs. It's a position he'll have to relinquish in order to work with the high school.
The former Kahuku standout is known for his work ethic on the field and in the classroom. As a walk-on at UH, Torres earned a scholarship and became a starting defensive back during his junior and senior seasons.
Kaiser won the division two state championship in 2013 under then-head coach Rich Miano; who resigned from the position in April. Last week, Kaiser named Cameron Higgins as its new head coach.
