WASHINGTON, DC (RNN) - The White House has lifted its lockdown after a car followed a motorcade into a secured area on Tuesday.
Reports are that a blue Honda Civic, driven by a civilian, drove into a restricted area at the 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue checkpoint around 4:40 p.m. ET.
The White House has not commented on whose motorcade was entering the perimeter, but reports indicate the motorcade was carrying President Barack Obama's daughters.
The driver, who holds a pass to the U.S. Treasury building, was taken into custody after being stopped by uniformed officers, according to CNN.
Various members of the White House press corps were placed under lockdown and relocated to a briefing room.
Because of the high level of security at the White House, even the smallest breaches can cause a lockdown of the area.
