MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Clontech Laboratories, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Takara Bio Inc., today announced that it has partnered with Vectalys SAS to combine Clontech's Living Colors® fluorescent protein and Tet-On® 3G technologies with Vectalys' expertise in providing the highest quality ready-to-use lentiviral particles as vectors for gene delivery.

The somatic cell reprogramming kits leverage Clontech's Tet-On 3G technology to provide tight transcriptional control of genes involved in maintaining embryonic stem cell-like properties, in order to generate iPS cells.

Overview of the process for generating high-titer lentiviral particles, which are distributed by Clontech Laboratories, Inc. Through this proprietary, large-scale process Vectalys is able to produce very high-titer, high-purity lentiviruses ready for transduction of many different cell types. The high titer allows for manipulation of even hard-to-transduce cells, like primary cells or stem cells, and the exceptional purity prevents cytotoxicity.


Vectalys' high-quality, ready-to-use lentiviral particles (available from Clontech) were used to label and visualize actin with mCherry fluorescent protein. These lentiviral particles are used to deliver and express ultra-bright fluorescent protein variants in virtually any human cell type-even non-proliferating cells, stem cells, and terminally differentiated cells-and result in long-term, constitutive expression of untargeted, cytoskeleton-targeted, or organelle-targeted fluorescent proteins.
