Crews rescue stranded Jet Ski riders in waters off Paauilo

The Hawaii Fire Department rescued two men stranded on their sinking Jet Ski in waters off Paauilo Saturday afternoon.

HFD received a call shortly before 5 p.m. about two men on a sinking jet ski needing assistance. The incident happened in waters off Paauilo near mile marker 37.

Fire officials say the victims jet ski was unable to start and was reportedly taking on water. The men were unable to get out of the ocean and climb up the cliff to safety on their own.

A chopper unit was able to locate the two men in distress, but were unable to bring them ashore. Rescue personnel were able to later extract them from the ocean and escort them to awaiting units.

No injuries were reported.
