No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.8 quake near Fiji Islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake shook an area near the Fiji Islands but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The earthquake happened around 11:16 p.m. HST Saturday.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.8, according to preliminary reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.
