NORTH RANDALL, OH (WOIO) -

The Kentucky Derby crowd and all other patrons were evacuated prior to the race start at Thistledown Racino in North Randall.

According to the Public Relations director, Shannon Mortland some smoke from one of the restaurants set off a smoke alarm, but there wasn't a fire.

"We were evacuated for about 15 minutes," Mortland explained to 19 Action News. "It was a false alarm. Everything is back to normal."

Mortland won't have the numbers of how many people were inside until Sunday, May 4. She attested the parking lot was full early on in the day and by 2 p.m. patrons started parking in the overflow lot.

Thistledown had a hat contest, served mint juleps and showcased live racing all day.
