NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

New Hanover High School senior Patrick Peoples was accepted into seven Ivy League schools and has chosen to attend Yale University.

"It was not easy," Peoples said.

After several college acceptances, multiple campus visits and much thought, Peoples said Yale was the best fit.

"It's just a really well-rounded school," Peoples explained. "I visited a lot of great colleges and I really felt that Yale had the opportunities that I need as a platform to really jump start off of."

Peoples already has a friend at Yale. Kwasi Enin, the student who was accepted to all eight Ivy League schools, is also headed to Yale.

"We were texting last night at 1:00 in the morning, we were deliberating," Peoples explained. "It really can be an anxious time, but it's nice to have a friend and someone who has also achieved great things."

Peoples announced his decision live on WECT News at 6 Wednesday. He was surrounded by excited family, friends and government officials.

"I had no idea that it was going to be this big and it's just so humbling, and it's wonderful to be the focus of good news," Peoples said. "I'm really excited for the summer and what's to come and to continue working hard in school and just to enjoy the experience."
