Road closures along Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City are creating a traffic headache for motorists.
Rail construction is underway and business owners in the area say it's affecting their customers.
For those who want to avoid the road closures, the map shown may help give a visual of what is happening.
The area in blue is the right westbound lane of the highway near Acacia Road right in front of Pearl Highlands Center.
That lane will be closed all day from Monday, April 28 until Monday, May 5.
The red line indicates westbound lanes between Waimano Home Road and Kuala Street.
The yellow is the eastbound lanes.
From Monday, April 28 until Friday, May 2, two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Also from Monday, April 28 until Friday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., one eastbound lane will be closed.
"Oh it's horrible…been sitting about an hour or so for 15 minute drive," said Maili resident Derrick Pelekai.
The closures are not only affecting motorists. Business owners say the congestion discourages their customers.
"They try to avoid this area, Kam highway, because there's so much traffic...they get stuck," said Mike Higuchi with Banzai Tattoo.
Scott Ishikawa with Honolulu Rail Transit Project says they apologize for the inconvenience and they ask drivers to be patient this week.
