LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) -
The Skantzos family in Lakewood spent part of Saturday, April 26 making an insurance claim after the historic building their restaurant is housed in crumbled to the ground.
Tina Skantzos and her husband own Shore Restaurant and the building. Part of the facade fell into the streets of downtown Lakewood just before 4 p.m. The crumbling building made a mess on the sidewalk.
Shore sits at Detroit Avenue and Hopkins.
Lakewood Fire was assisted by Brooklyn Fire's emergency response team. They secured the structure with big pieces of wood to make sure more material didn't fall on pedestrians. Thankfully, no one was injured.
Tina Skantzos said they didn't see any indications the timeworn building was falling apart. She said there wasn't any problems with the roof leaking, cracked windows, or signs of shifting.
"We are so happy that nobody was hurt. We have insurance," Skantzos assured 19 Action News.
She's started an insurance claim and hopes to restore the building to its historic splendor. The architecture dates back about one century. The Skantzos family has been in business at that corner location for over three decades. They expressed to our Bill Safos they absolutely adore the building and will go through the proper channels to restore the architecture.
