LSUS ends home season with a win over Centenary

Shreveport, LA (LSUS Sports Information) -

The LSU Shreveport Pilots' bullpen retired 11 batters in a row leading the 8th ranked Pilots to a season series sweep of the Centenary Gents on Tuesday night at Pilots Field by a final score of 14-8.

The strand of 11 in row retired began with Caleb Olson retiring the last two batters that he faced in the sixth inning and continued with Cam Ellis working the first one-two-three inning of the night followed by perfect 8th and 9th innings by Jason  Mouton and Ian Ham.

The Pilots (38-12) took an early lead on a rbi-single from Connor McMullin in the first inning but the Gents (18-20) rallied back to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. LSUS rebounded to plate five runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take what appeared to be a commanding 6-2 lead.

Reed Lavallee had a big two-run double in the frame, his first of two doubles in the game as he finished 2-for-4 with two rbis as the Pilots. David Diaz ripped a two-run triple as a part of a four-run 4th inning for the Pilots as LSUS regained the lead for good 11-7.

The final run-scoring rally for the Pilots came in the 6th inning as Kade Billeaudeaux began with his second hit of the night as he finished 2-for-4. He later scored on a bases loaded walk by Ridge Gonsoulin.

This game was a tale of two teams trying to keep the other team in the ballgame. The Pilots did not play their best defensive game of the year committing six errors in the five innings but finished error-free the rest of the way. The Centenary pitching staff walked a total of 11 LSUS' hitters and hit three.

Brandon Texiera (2-0) picked up the win for the Pilots working an inning and 1/3 allowing just one earned run on three hits.

The Pilots will head to Hawkins, Texas, this weekend for a pair of double headers (Friday and Saturday) to decide the Red River Athletic Conference Regular Season Champion. The Pilots hold a one-game lead over the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs and need to win just two games but it will be a tough test against a good team on the road. Both days the double header begins at 1 p.m.
