Kauai police and fire rescuers recovered a man's body from Kalalau Valley Thursday afternoon.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Firefighters were notified of a possible missing hiker around noon Thursday in the Kalalau area.
A friend of the missing person reported that on Tuesday the two set out to hike into the valley from the beach, where they had been camping. He said the terrain became very dangerous so he turned back, but his friend continued on. The victim hadn't returned to the beach as of Thursday morning.
KFD crews conducted an aerial search of the area and located a man's body deep in the valley around 1:30 p.m.
The case is still under investigation. According to KFD, foul play is not suspected at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for early next week.
