TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Firefighters are battling flames after a brief lightning storm near Elgin ignited several fires that combined into one on Saturday afternoon, according to Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department PIO Katie Goodwin.

The fire started in Babcamari Ranch just before 3:00 p.m. and has spread quickly, covering an estimated 600 acres of land, according to Cochise County Sheriff's Office PIO Carol Capas.

Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department is on the scene. Also assisting with the flames are the U.S. Forest Service and Arizona State Land.

It is on private property and no structures are threatened. Crews are currently conducting a burnout operation, burning land around the fire in order to prevent fresh land from fueling the flames.
