No tsunami expected after 6.6 quake near Papua New Guinea

PAPUA NEW GUINEA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake near Papua New Guinea was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.  The quake which struck at 3:04 p.m. HST was at a depth of 15 miles.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports, "Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. Repeat. A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
