A 61-year-old man was hit and killed by a van Thursday night at the intersection of Mike Padgett Highway and Payton Drive, according to Richmond County officials.
John Mark McPherson was pushing a lawnmower and attempting to cross the 3100 block of Mike Padgett Highway around 8:30 p.m. when he was struck, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said.
This is the fifth pedestrian to be hit and third to die
since April 10th.

Moore said, "Just make sure you have on loud clothing. Make sure you watch both
sides of the street carefully and make sure you have a clear path in crossing
the street. "
McPherson was not using a crosswalk, was wearing dark-colored clothing and was under the influence of alcohol, Bowen said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 p.m.
Toxicology testing is being done on McPherson.
