(Hawaii News Now) - No one thought the 7 brainiacs on the first-year Damien Memorial School rocketry team were going anywhere when their first rocket exploded in midair over Marine Corps Base Hawaii in December.
But two weeks ago they got a message that they managed to win an invitation to the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), the nation's most prestigious school rocketry event. Damien is one of only 100 schools in the country invited out of 713, and the first one from Hawaii in 7 years.
Now they just need to find the money to get to the event which will be held May 10 in The Plains, Virginia. The Damien team barely made the national deadline with three launches on Sunday March 30, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii that met national standards, the last soaring 828 feet.
