COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The New York City Police Department is investigating a beating at a nightclub and seeking two former Gamecocks for questioning in connection with the incident.

Detectives are hoping to speak with cornerback Victor Hampton and defensive end Kelcy Quarles following the assault of a nightclub promoter at the Greenhouse nightclub on Friday.

According to NYPD Lt. John Grimpel, Hampton, Quarles, and former defensive end Chaz Sutton were visiting the nightclub around 3 a.m. when the promoter claimed he was struck in the face with a hookah pipe by three men in the VIP room.

Police say the victim sustained facial fractures in the incident.

Prior to this incident, investigators say Sutton was stabbed while leaving the club. Officials say the assailant approached the former Gamecock and stabbed him in the shoulder, which Sutton believed to only be a punch. However, when Sutton returned to his hotel room, he noticed he was bleeding. Police believe the injury to be minor.

Officials with the department say there could be charges, but they want to talk with everyone who was in the VIP room.

Grimpel says in the meantime, detectives will continue to review video footage captured at the scene.

All three players were in New York for a magazine shoot with ESPN.

Quarles and Hampton declared for the 2014 NFL Draft after the Gamecocks most recent season where the team went 11-2.

Hampton recently sat down for an interview and said he was ready to move on from his checkered past where he developed a reputation as a troublemaker.

"It's kind of rough because people put me on a reputation or labeled me at a young age before I really even knew exactly what was going on," Hampton said in that interview.

We have reached out to Hampton and Quarles' spokesperson for a statement.
