TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson residents may have noticed more noise in the air this week.  Air Force jests and other aircraft are preparing for the air show at Davis-Monthan this weekend.

Several residents have been commenting on the additional noise and air traffic around the base. Residents may notice today that the aircraft will be flying lower and faster than they have in the past few days, this is due to modified flying conditions for the base.  These modified conditions are only in place during the air show, an event that happens every two years.

In 2012 residents reported hearing a loud boom the day before the air show.  Tucson Police reported about 90 calls to 911 on that day.  Some residents reported they had their windows shattered.

D-M officials later reported that it was a sonic boom, caused by one of the Thunderbirds practicing a maneuver.  It was during this maneuver the jet broke the sound barrier.

For those with questions about flying conditions can call the D-M Flight Operations hotline at 228-5091.
