Four people were treated for injuries after fire gutted a Kailua home Tuesday afternoon.
Crews were called to 401 Keolu Drive around 11:53 am. They arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames.
"When I looked out the window it was black huge smoke, the kind you only see on TV," said neighbor Melanie Nichols.
Another neighbor talked about how high the flames got, "It was about 20 feet high. It was really scary. That's why I thought my house was going to catch on fire too," said Jordyn Reindollar.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, two men were at home at the time of the fire and both were taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Both were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
Two young men, who were neighbors, also suffered minor burns while trying to rescue six dogs from the house.
"They were being carried out one by one as they were found and the dogs were really scared." said Nichols.
The dogs were taken to a neighbor's yard.
Honolulu Police closed a portion of Keolu Drive while firefighters battled the blaze.
Crews had the blaze under control by 12:23 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
