A 50-year-old man was arrested Saturday after Richmond County deputies said he tried to enter Augusta National Golf Club in his vehicle.
Joseph John Murphy tried to enter one of the gates around 8:40 p.m., Sgt. Glen Rahn said. He was told he was not allowed to enter and then left.
About 10 minutes later Murphy returned in his vehicle, bypassed the security guard and was stopped shortly after by a marked Richmond County patrol vehicle.
Murphy was arrested and charged with criminal trespass, Rahn said. Murphy is not a local resident.
There was no damage to property at Augusta National.
