SUV slams into pole; shuts down Ka Uka Blvd. in Waipio
WAIPIO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Honolulu Police shut down Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipio Sunday morning after an SUV reportedly slammed into a utility pole.
According to HPD officials, a white SUV hit a utility pole near Costco around 5:30 a.m. Upon impact, the pole landed on top of the SUV.
HPD shut down Ka Uka Boulevard westbound at Moaniani Street around 8:43 a.m. Traffic was rerouted down Moaniani Street.
Electrical wires were reportedly in the middle of the road, and all traffic lights in the area were off.
Hawaiian Electric Company officials say about 18 customers lost power at the time. All power was restored Sunday morning; however, officials are still working on repairing the utility pole. According to HECO, the repairs will be completed around 8 p.m.
Emergency Medical Services took the driver of the white SUV to the hospital in good condition.
HPD says the road will likely be closed for the remainder of the day.
