New Honolulu Zoo director begins Tuesday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Honolulu Zoo will welcome their second zoo director in less than a year on Tuesday, when Jeffrey Wilkinson begins his tenure at the facility.

Wilkinson, a Punahou graduate, replaces Jeffrey Mahon, who spent just six months on the job before stepping down.

Wilkinson's hiring drew criticism after it was revealed that he had no experience working with animals. He was last employed as the Chief Operating Officer at a homeless shelter.

We'll have more on this story tonight on Hawaii News Now beginning at 5 p.m.
