Visits to OCCC cancelled for second day; Halawa visits also cancelled
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The Department of Public Safety canceled visitation hours at Oahu Community Correctional Center Sunday, the second day in a row that the visits have been called off.
Visitation hours were also cancelled at Halawa Correctional Facility.
Visits were also cancelled Saturday at OCCC and Hawaii Community Correctional Center on the Big Island because of a staffing shortage, a public safety spokeswoman said.
DPS officials started sending out visitation cancellation notices through social media in an effort to quickly alert people who plan on going to the facility to see a loved one. Posts are shared between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled visitation day.
OCCC has also opened a new hotline for visitors to call for cancellation notices. To reach the hotline call 832-1623.
