Second 7-Eleven store robbed in two days

WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police are searching for an armed man suspected of robbing a 7-Eleven convenience store on Friday morning, the second such armed robbery incident on Oahu in as many days.

Friday's incident is reported to have taken place at the 7-Eleven store in Waipahu near the intersection of Farrington Highway and Leokane Street at just before 1:20 a.m.

HPD officials say the establishment's two female employees were the only people inside when the male suspect walked in, pulled a sawed-off shotgun from the inside of his clothing, and demanded money from the register.

The man was only able to obtain about $70 in cash before fleeing, police say, though he did grab cigarettes on the way out.

The incident came nearly 24 hours after a 7-Eleven store on Nimitz Highway in Kalihi  was robbed by a man using a black handgun and wearing a black mask. The suspect in that case targeted cartons of cigarettes instead of cash from the register, fleeing with as many as 22 of them.
