Big Island police identify Hilo murder victim

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Big Island police have identified the victim in a murder investigation as 59-year-old Robert A Evanson of Hilo.

At 7:32 p.m. Wednesday, police officials say the department responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Ululani Street. Upon arrival, police discovered Evanson's lifeless body in one of the apartment units.

He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, were he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested 52-year-old Rhonda Faris and 63-year-old Elsworth Hulihe'e at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder.  Shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, detectives released Hulihee and Faris from police custody pending further investigation.

Results of an autopsy conducted Friday afternoon (March 28) on the body of Robert A. Evanson are being deferred pending further tests.
