Tift Co. baseball all in for title run

Posted: Updated:

The Blue Devils have a self confidence in themselves right now.

They call it mojo, from the movie Friday Night Lights.

But they know it will take a lot more to make a title run.

The Devils are sixth in the latest AAAAAA polls. They say it's flattering, but it doesn't mean much.

"It's good publicity for the program. It's good because it gets the kids excited and the community excited," says head coach Kyle Kirk. "But like we've always talked about, if you lose the last game of the year, it doesn't really matter."

Tift is all in for a state championship, especially after the boys' basketball team brought one home earlier this month.

This team has had high expectations from the start and they haven't cooled off, even after a 2-2 start in region play.

"You have to win when it counts, and that's region," says senior catcher Will Reinhardt. "So far we haven't done the best of that. But hopefully, we'll get better."

Head coach Kyle Kirk says his guys are staying loose but working hard, all trying to attain their one common goal.

"They know they can't take a day off at practice, because this game will humble you in a heartbeat," he says. "You can be going as well as anybody, and then just the bottom fall out on you."

The Devils go down to Valdosta Friday for a region doubleheader with the Wildcats. First pitch of game one is at 4:30 p.m.
