Haleiwa parents press Kamehameha Schools to keep preschool open

HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hundreds of parents, kids and teachers gathered in Haleiwa Tuesday night to beg Kamehameha Schools to reverse its plan to close the neighborhood preschool.

The two-building complex it leases from the Jodo Mission has been deteriorating, and school leaders explained to the crowd why it believes closing in June is the best option.

The Jodo Mission says it has already made some of the needed repairs, and school officials said they would continue to keep the dialogue going with the community.

North Shore lawmakers also say they'll keep the pressure on, hoping for a reversal.
