IRVINE, Calif. - University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior pitcher Scott Kuzminsky has been named Big West Pitcher of the Week. It was the second weekly honor for a UH pitcher this season after Matt Cooper earned the award Mar. 3.
Kuzminsky began the week with a complete game two-hit shutout of Nevada in a 1-0 victory on Monday. He pitched to the minimum number of batters, walking one and striking out three. Kuzminsky returned to the mound on Sunday against Alabama-Birmingham and nearly fired another complete game.
He lasted eight and two-thirds innings, scattering seven hits and two runs in a 4-2 Hawai'i win. He also issued just one walk and struck out a career-high six batters.
Kuzminsky and the 'Bows open conference play this week at UC Santa Barbara. The series begins on Friday, Mar. 28 at 3:00 p.m. PT (12:00 a.m. HT).
