Staffing shortage cancels visitation hours at OCCC, HCCC
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The visitation hours at the Oahu Community Correctional Center and the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on the Big Island were cancelled on Saturday due to a staffing shortage.
The Department of Public Safety sent out a Nixle community alert on Saturday, to let the public know visitations were cancelled for the day.
DPS officials have started sending out community alerts in an effort to get the word out faster to people who are planning to go to the facility to visit a loved one. Officials say many times they aren't sure if the cancellation is going to be made until the morning of the visit.
All other Oahu facilities were still conducting visits on Saturday.
DPS officials will also send out cancellation alerts through their Facebook and Twitter accounts every Saturday morning to ensure public awareness of future cancellations.
