Civil Defense tests sirens on Kauai and Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

State Civil Defense will be conducting tests of the Outdoor Siren Warning System on Kauai and Oahu Thursday, March 20.

The siren testing schedule for Thursday is:

Kauai: 11:45 a.m. (island wide)

Oahu: Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at Waipahu High School and Hahaione Valley

Residents in these areas may hear the sirens sound for 30-seconds during the identified timeframes. The tests are to verify upgraded siren controls on Kauai and new installations on Oahu.

Residents may call State Civil Defense at (808) 733-4300 if they have any questions or concerns regarding maintenance work on the Statewide Outdoor Siren Warning System. Contact your county civil defense/emergency management agency to report routine siren operations issues: Kauai (808) 241-1800, Oahu - City and County of Honolulu (808) 723-8960.

State Civil Defense encourages the public to make use of redundant methods of warning including, but not limited to, text notification systems and NOAA Weather Radio.
